JOB TITLE: Director       


DIVISION: Corporate

Job Summary:

Responsible for managing SCCA’s amateur road racing program, including the U.S. Majors Tour, Hoosier SCCA Super Tour, National Championship Runoffs and local racing initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement programs that enhance the value and enjoyment for all participants while enhancing the financial equity of the SCCA.
  • Collaborate with key program leaders, volunteer program boards and stakeholders on program initiatives and processes in support of the program and organizational goals, including implementation and execution.
  • Supervise and lead Road Racing Department staff.
  • Responsible for key event staff selection, assignment and training coordination.
  • Respond to interdepartmental, committee and member inquiries and provide required data and information.
  • Manage business operations and logistics of season-long racing series and championship event.
  • Negotiate and maintain vendor and track/venue relationships.
  • Manage procurement, inventory monitoring, and distribution of program equipment and materials for events and Regions.
  • Conduct post-event surveys and reviews with host Regions.
  • Collect and analyze program-related data for strategic planning.
  • Attend and assist SCCA with select trade show activities, volunteer boards and committee meetings, convention, partner meetings and divisional meetings.
  • Develop and administer the Road Racing department budget.
  • Support program management tools department wide.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Experience and Training:

  • Minimum Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
  • Communication: Possess excellent communication skills including:
    • Ability to understand verbal and written information and instruction.
    • Ability to effectively exchange information with others.
    • Ability to develop and present recommendations in a clear and concise manner;
    • Ability to effectively compose instruction documents and reports in written form;
  • Interpersonal: Ability to work effectively with diverse personalities at various organizational levels.
  • Financial: Ability to perform department budgeting and allocation responsibilities and interpret financial data
  • Business Unit Management with proven proficiency in leadership, planning, development, budgeting, problem solving and communication.
  • Event and Project Management skills including strong organization, prioritization and problem-solving skills. Proven proficiency in managing multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and internet is required.
  • Proficient Excel spreadsheet skills with proven ability to procure and analyze data, as well as present analytics using charts and models.
  • Bonus: Familiarity with SCCA Road Racing program or similar motorsports experience is preferred but not required.

      Reporting Relationships:

      • This position reports to the Vice President, Road Racing
      • This Position has supervisory responsibilities for: Road Racing Assistant Manager, Road Racing Technical Manager, Independent contractor field staff

      Travel Requirements:

      This position requires travel to events, meeting and training opportunities.

        Environmental Requirements:

        Work is conducted in outdoor motorsports and in indoor business environments. Some exposure to unfavorable conditions may be encountered during travel for business requirements located within the areas as well as to member locations.

        Physical Requirements

        • Requires walking 10% of the time, standing 10% and sitting 75% of the time. More walking and standing is required when attending events.
        • Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull 10-25 pounds, and occasionally lift 25-50 pounds. .
        • Ability to participate in high level as well as routine conversation.
        • Conditions may require work in low and bright light; use of near and far vision acuity; use of depth perception, color sensitivity, and a field of vision (peripheral vision).

        Other Requirements:

        • Department staff is based in Topeka, KS. Officing out of Topeka is preferred, but hybrid options considered on a case-by-case basis.
        • Travel to 8-12 events (weekends), including the SCCA Runoffs (12-15 day trip)
